THE WINE
The Chardonnay “Ronco Basso” by Ronco del Gnemiz is a wine produced in San Giovanni al Natisone (in Friuli Venezia Giulia) according to EcoFriendly agriculture from 100% Friulano grapes. The winery is about 30 years old and is family-run by Christian and Serena who share a passion for wine and for organic production.
THE WINEMAKING
The Chardonnay harvest is strictly manual, and the grapes are picked only at when the ripeness has reached the desired level. Once harvested, the grapes are cold decanted and then softly pressed. Fermentation takes place at low temperatures ; the 80% of the most ferments in barrique and the remaining 20% in oak barrels. The wine then rests for about 10 months; 50% in barrique and 50% in large oak barrels (6 hectoliters).
THE TASTING
Bright straw yellow, tending to golden. The aroma is floral with notes of white flowers and sweet spices, follwed by hints of yellow and exotic fruit including peach, apricot, pineapple and mango. Soft and fresh on the palate with a nice sapidity and persistent finish.
FOOD PAIRINGS
Ideal with appetizers, but also with vegetable and white meat pasta courses.
