The wine Dolceacqua Superiore Poggio Pini by Tenuta Anfosso
Dolceacqua Superiore Poggio Pini is a wine that embodies the elegance and tradition of Ligurian winemaking. Produced by the renowned Tenuta Anfosso winery, this wine expresses the typicity of Rossese, an indigenous grape variety of the region. The Poggio Pini vineyards are located in the municipality of Soldano, on the namesake hill, where the vines, some dating back to 1888, benefit from a privileged south-east exposure. This unique terroir, characterized by schist, clay, and limestone, along with the influence of sea winds and Mediterranean scrub, contributes to creating a wine of great complexity and finesse.
The Winemaking
The winemaking of Dolceacqua Superiore Poggio Pini is a carefully controlled process to enhance the qualities of Rossese. The grapes are manually selected, and only a portion is destemmed, with percentages varying between 50% and 60% depending on the vintage. Fermentation occurs on the skins for about 12-15 days at a constant temperature of 26°-28°C. After fermentation, the wine matures for 12 months in steel tanks and an additional 8 months in the bottle, developing an elegant and harmonious structure.
Tasting the wine of the winery
Visually, Dolceacqua Superiore Poggio Pini displays an intense ruby red color, while the nose offers a complex bouquet of spices, fruits, and toasted notes. The dominant aromas include blackberries, wild strawberries, mulberry, dried rose, tobacco, and white pepper. On the palate, the softness of glycerin and alcohol is balanced by good freshness, tannicity, and sapidity, with a characteristic bitter finish. This wine stands out for its intensity and persistence, promising positive evolution with aging over 10 years.
Food Pairings
Dolceacqua Superiore Poggio Pini pairs perfectly with game, red meats, lamb, and aged cheeses. Its structure and complexity make it ideal for accompanying typical Ligurian cuisine, enhancing the flavors of traditional dishes. The average planting density of 5000 vines per hectare and the cultivation in terraces with an “alberello” system reflect Tenuta Anfosso’s commitment to quality and sustainability, ensuring a unique and authentic wine experience.
