Edi Simčič Winery
Wines of excellence with a unique character.
The story of Edi Simčič Winery began between the 1960s and 1980s, when Marica and Edi Simčič passionately cultivated 3.5 hectares of vineyards while also working at the Dobrovo Agricultural Cooperative. In 1989, they celebrated a milestone by bottling their first wine, producing 3,000 bottles. With the generational transition, their son Alex took over the business in the 1990s, setting a clear direction and laying the foundations for the family brand. What started as a small home cellar gradually transformed into a modern production facility. Today, the story continues with the third generation: Alex’s sons, Jure and Jakob, are already key players in the family business.
Production and Winemaking Philosophy
Today, Edi Simčič manages 13 hectares of vineyards with 90,000 vines, producing about 65,000 bottles annually. Located in the picturesque Goriška Brda, the winery benefits from a unique environment where cherry, peach, olive trees, and vines blend harmoniously. The soil, rich in salts and minerals, is ideal for producing white wines that are fresh, mineral, and have great aging potential. Rebula, the indigenous variety, is a particular pride of Edi Simčič. Red wines, such as Merlot, also play an important role, focusing on ripeness and longevity.
Innovation and Winery Structure
The winery can accommodate 100,000 liters of wine and has 500 barriques, ensuring optimal aging. It was recently expanded to include a modern tasting room designed to harmonize with the surrounding environment. The vineyards are located in the villages of Fojana, Kozana, and Vipolže, each with unique characteristics that contribute to the quality of the wines. Edi Simčič Winery exemplifies how tradition and innovation can coexist, evolving through generations without losing connection to the land
