The Duet from the Edi Simčič winery
The Duet from Edi Simčič winery represents a viticultural excellence of the Goriška Brda region in Slovenia. This red wine stands out for its refined and complex style, harmoniously combining elegance and structure. The Edi Simčič winery, known for its focus on quality and tradition, has created with the Duet a wine capable of satisfying both the most demanding palates and those approaching the world of wine with curiosity and passion. Made primarily from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc varieties, the Duet is an example of how Slovenian viticulture can compete with the best international productions.
The Winemaking
The winemaking process of the Duet is characterized by careful grape selection and controlled fermentation to preserve the original aromas and flavors. After fermentation, the wine matures in oak barrels, which helps impart a solid structure and aromatic complexity. This wood aging develops spicy notes and a softness that balances the natural acidity of the grapes. This aging process is essential to ensure the wine’s longevity, which can reach up to ten years, during which the Duet continues to evolve and improve.
Tasting the wine of the winery
Visually, the Duet displays a deep ruby color, already suggesting its intensity and depth. On the nose, this wine offers a delicate yet well-defined bouquet, dominated by notes of dark red fruits and a hint of oak maturation. Over time, additional red fruit aromas emerge, making the aromatic profile even more lively. On the palate, the Duet is dry, with high acidity that provides freshness and a medium body that makes it versatile. The tannins are present but soft, offering a pleasant grip that accompanies a long and well-defined finish.
Food Pairings
The Duet is an extremely versatile wine in terms of culinary pairings. Its structure and complexity make it ideal for accompanying red meat dishes, such as roasts and grilled steaks. However, its elegance and finesse also make it a perfect companion for game dishes or aged cheeses. Thanks to its balance between acidity and tannins, the Duet pairs well with slightly spicy dishes, offering a rich and satisfying tasting experience. This wine is perfect to be served by the glass in high-end restaurants, where it can fully express its quality and distinctive character.
