The Pinot Nero Longorucis from Vie Di Romans Winery
Pinot Nero Longorucis is a dry red wine produced by the renowned Vie di Romans winery, located in the heart of Friuli Isonzo, specifically in Mariano del Friuli. This wine is a pure expression of Pinot Noir, a grape known for its elegance and complexity. The production area, characterized by moderately deep soils rich in iron and aluminum oxides, gives the wine a unique structure, while the average vine age of just 8 years ensures vibrant freshness. With a yield of 6,080 kg per hectare, Longorucis represents a perfect balance between quantity and quality..
The Winemaking
The vinification of Pinot Nero Longorucis follows a meticulous process that begins with destemming and crushing, followed by a 16-day maceration with punch-downs to ensure optimal extraction of aromatic and tannic compounds. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures between 18 and 24 °C, using selected yeasts. The fermentation lasts 12 days and is followed by complete malolactic fermentation, which contributes to a softer and rounder wine. The wine is aged for 14 months in barriques, followed by one month in stainless steel tanks, allowing for natural clarification. Bottling is scheduled for January 10, 2024, with a bottle aging of 20 months.
Tasting the wine of the winery
Visually, Pinot Nero Longorucis presents a deep ruby red color. On the nose, it offers a complex bouquet of red fruits, spicy notes, and subtle earthy hints typical of Pinot Noir. On the palate, the wine is elegant and well-structured, with a lively acidity that balances the 14.22% alcohol content. The finish is long and persistent, with well-integrated tannins and a lingering aftertaste of underbrush and licorice.
Food Pairings
Pinot Nero Longorucis is a versatile wine that pairs perfectly with red meat dishes, game, and aged cheeses. It is ideal with a peppered beef fillet or a pork roast with mushroom sauce. For those who prefer vegetarian dishes, it pairs well with mushroom risotto or eggplant-based dishes. Thanks to its structure and complexity, Longorucis is also perfect to be enjoyed on its own as a meditation wine. With an aging potential of up to 15 years, this wine promises to evolve beautifully, reaching its peak evolution in about 6 years.
