The Pinot Nero from Vie Di Romans Winery
The Pinot Noir from Vie di Romans is a dry red wine that epitomizes the refined expression of the Friuli Isonzo Rive Alte region, located in the municipality of Mariano del Friuli, in the province of Gorizia. This wine stands out for its elegance and complexity, a result of attentive viticulture and meticulous winemaking. The Vie di Romans vineyard, with an average vine age of 10 years, spans 1.20 hectares of land characterized by a moderately deep soil rich in iron and aluminum oxides, imparting a distinctive color and mineral structure to the wine.
The Winemaking
The winemaking process for Pinot Noir Vie di Romans is precise, beginning with destemming and crushing, followed by a 16-day maceration with regular punch-downs and délestage to extract color and tannins. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures between 18 and 24 °C, using selected yeasts. After a 14-day fermentation and complete malolactic fermentation, the wine matures for 14 months in barriques, followed by one month in stainless steel tanks for natural clarification. Bottling takes place in December, and the wine undergoes further aging in the bottle for 20 months, reaching an alcohol content of 14%.
Tasting the wine of the winery
Upon tasting, Pinot Noir Vie di Romans reveals an intense ruby red color, reflecting the rich composition of the soil. The nose offers a complex bouquet of ripe red fruits, sweet spices, and a hint of vanilla from the barrel aging. On the palate, the wine is elegant and structured, with well-balanced acidity (5.1 g/l) and a long, persistent finish. The pH of 3.74 contributes to the overall harmony, making it suitable for long aging, with the best evolutionary peak expected in 8 years and an aging potential of up to 18 years.
Food Pairings
Pinot Noir Vie di Romans is particularly versatile when it comes to food pairings. It pairs perfectly with red meat dishes, such as filet mignon with green peppercorn sauce or herb-crusted pork roast. It is also ideal with aged cheeses and dishes from Friulian cuisine, like frico with polenta. Its elegance and complexity also make it a great companion for moments of contemplation, allowing you to fully appreciate its nuances.
