The Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso from Ronchi di Manzano Winery is a wine that truly represents the Friuli Colli Orientali region. Made from Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso grapes, this wine is a testament to the Friulian winemaking tradition, enhanced by the unique soil composition known as “ponca,” consisting of Eocene-origin marl and sandstone. With an alcohol content of 14%, this wine is distinguished by its robust structure and aromatic complexity.
The vines, planted in 2004 and cultivated using the Capuccina system, grow on soils that impart a unique minerality to the wine.
The Winemaking
The winemaking process begins with destemming, crushing, and fermentation at controlled temperatures. The maceration on the skins lasts about 12 days, a crucial process for extracting the intense color and desired tannins. Subsequently, the wine is transferred to stainless steel tanks for initial settling before maturing in wooden barrels of various sizes for twelve months. This prolonged aging allows the wine to develop depth and complexity. Finally, the wine is bottled and further refined for two months before being marketed.

The Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso presents itself with an intense ruby red color, characterized by a persistent violet hue. On the nose, the wine offers a fruity bouquet of ripe plums and raspberry, enriched with spicy notes of black pepper and fresh almonds. On the palate, the wine is dry, alcoholic, and slightly tannic, with pronounced sapidity. The fruity persistence and robust taste make it a wine of excellent quality and harmony.
