The Schioppettino from Vigna Traverso Winery
The Schioppettino from Vigna Traverso Winery, also known as Ribolla Nera, is an indigenous red wine that embodies the essence of the Friuli Colli Orientali region. Produced exclusively in the town of Prepotto, in the province of Udine, this wine is the result of a unique grape variety, cultivated at 160 meters above sea level with a southeast exposure that enhances its sensory characteristics. The Ronco area, with its clay soils known as “ponca,” gives the wines unparalleled depth, aroma, and persistence.
The Schioppettino from Vigna Traverso Winery is a masterpiece of elegance and tradition, a wine that tells the story and passion of a land dedicated to the excellence of viticulture.
The Winemaking
The production of Schioppettino begins with a manual harvest, which takes place between late September and early October, to carefully select the best grapes. After destemming and crushing, the grapes undergo an 8-10 day maceration with daily delestage, a process that allows for optimal extraction of aromatic and phenolic compounds. The malolactic fermentation is completed in stainless steel, followed by aging in barriques for at least 12 months. Finally, the wine is aged in the bottle for a few months before being released to the market.
Tasting the wine of the winery
Schioppettino presents itself with a ruby red color tending towards violet, visually promising an intense experience. On the nose, the bouquet is rich and complex, with distinctive notes of woodland berries, raspberry, and an intriguing hint of pepper. On the palate, the wine is intense and slightly sharp, with a solid structure that makes it particularly appreciable for its persistence and balance between acidity and tannins.
Food Pairings
Thanks to its complexity and structure, Schioppettino pairs perfectly with roasted meats and aged cheeses. Its ability to enhance intense flavors makes it an ideal companion for important dinners and special occasions. It is recommended to serve it at a temperature of 16-18°C to fully appreciate its aromatic and taste nuances.
