The SorelleSala Rosso Riserva from the Tenuta Gorghi Tondi winery is a blend of Nero d’Avola prevalente, Syrah e Cabernet Sauvignon grapes grown in vineyards owned by the winery. We are near Mazara del Vallo in the westernmost part of Sicily, a stone’s throw from the sea and the sea breezes. The estate is located within a nature reserve protected by the WWF.
The winery is a family-run winery run by women, and since 2016 all vineyards have been certified organic, which means that all the wines are organic and carry the famous green leaf on the label. Both in the vineyard and in the cellar, there is the utmost respect for nature and its balance.
This wine was born to remember when the sisters Annamaria and Clara started their business in the company. Two sisters joined to make the family dream come true: make Sicilian quality wines known worldwide.
SorelleSala is a red wine produced with the best selection of Nero d’Avola grapes and small quantities of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon; it is an elegant wine that aged for more than a year in French oak barrels.
The Winemaking
After the harvest, only the selected grapes go to the cellar for winemaking which begins with maceration on the skins for about two weeks. The must ferments in steel tanks at a controlled temperature. The aging occurs in French oak barrels where the wine rests for at least fourteen months. After assembly and bottling, the wine remains in the cellar for at least eight months before being released on the market.
Testing the wine SorelleSala from Gorghi Tondi
Bright ruby red with light purple reflections. The aroma is elegant, with pleasant hints of berries that alternate with notes of Cuban cigar and vanilla berries to continue with puffs of black pepper and close with light balsamic hints. This wine is rich and velvety on the palate; SorelleSala is rich with well-polished and silky tannins and a long and persistent finish.
Food Pairings
SorelleSala Rosso Riserva goes well with red meats, game and hard cheeses. Try it with braised meat.
