The Nero d’Avola from the Tenute Orestiadi winery
The Nero d’Avola from Tenute Orestiadi is a wine crafted from pure Nero d’Avola grapes, sourced from the estate’s vineyards. These vineyards are cultivated on dark, alluvial soils rich in clay and sand, situated at about 400 meters above sea level. This particular combination of soil and altitude imparts unique and distinctive characteristics to the wine, reflecting the terroir from which it originates.
The Winemaking
The grape harvesting phase is a critical moment that is conducted with extreme care, strictly by hand, ensuring that only the finest and ripest grapes are selected for winemaking. Once the grapes arrive at the winery, they undergo a winemaking process initially in stainless steel tanks, a method that preserves the freshness and fruity aromas of the grape variety. The wine is aged for the first four months in steel, then transferred to French oak barrels where it rests for about ten months. This wood aging imparts complexity and depth to the wine, enriching it with spicy and vanilla notes. After blending and bottling, the wine is left to mature in the cellar for an additional six months, ensuring it reaches its full potential before being released to the market.
Tasting the wine of the winery
Visually, the Nero d’Avola presents a deep ruby red color, enhanced by violet reflections that highlight its vibrancy. On the nose, it is distinguished by its breadth and elegance, with enveloping notes of wild berries and morello cherries interwoven with mineral hints. These complex aromas are further enriched by touches of spices, giving the wine a refined and intriguing personality. On the palate, the wine is delicate, with soft and well-balanced tannins that offer a harmonious structure. The finish is long and persistent, leaving a pleasant fruity aftertaste that invites another sip.
Food Pairings
Nero d’Avola pairs perfectly with red meat and game dishes, and it is also an excellent companion for aged cheeses. A must-try pairing is with red tuna sfincione, a typical Sicilian dish that highlights the versatility and depth of this wine, making every meal an unforgettable culinary experience.
