The Flors di Uis from Vie Di Romans Winery
Flors di Uis is a dry white wine produced by the Vie di Romans winery, located in Mariano del Friuli, in the renowned Friuli Isonzo Rive Alte area. This refined blend of Istrian Malvasia, Tocai Friulano, and Rhine Riesling reflects the winemaking excellence of the region. The vineyards of Boghis, Ciampagnis, and Vie di Romans form the foundation of this creation, with an average vine age of 31 years. The density and yield per hectare are carefully controlled to ensure the highest quality grapes.
The Winemaking
The winemaking of Flors di Uis is a meticulous process that begins with the destemming and crushing of the grapes, followed by cold skin maceration at 8 °C. Clarification occurs statically at cold temperatures, while fermentation takes place between 16 and 19 °C using selected yeasts. The fermentation duration ranges from 15 to 21 days, and malolactic fermentation is not performed to preserve the wine’s freshness and acidity. The elevage lasts 8 months on lees, allowing the wine to develop complexity and depth, followed by natural clarification. Bottling occurred in May 2024, followed by 10 months of bottle aging.
Tasting the wine of the winery
Flors di Uis presents a bright color and a complex bouquet ranging from floral notes to hints of white-fleshed fruit and citrus. On the palate, it offers an elegant and well-balanced structure with lively acidity and a minerality reflecting the typical terroir of Friuli. The alcohol content of 13.82% vol is perfectly integrated, making this wine a captivating and persistent sensory experience.
Food Pairings
This wine pairs well with a variety of dishes, enhancing seafood, shellfish, and white meat dishes. Its freshness and complexity also make it ideal with fresh cheeses and vegetable-based dishes.
