The Chardonnay Ciampagnis from Vie Di Romans Winery
The Chardonnay Ciampagnis from Cantina Vie Di Romans is a dry white wine of great character, representative of the Friuli Isonzo region. Made from 100% Chardonnay grapes, this wine expresses the authenticity of the Rive Alte terroir, particularly in the municipality of Mariano del Friuli. With an average vine age of 19 years and a planting density ranging from 6,200 to 7,800 vines per hectare, Ciampagnis is distinguished by its quality and complexity.
The name “Ciampagnis” of the Chardonnay from Cantina Vie Di Romans comes from the specific vineyard where the grapes for this wine are harvested. Located in the Friuli Isonzo area, the vineyard imparts unique characteristics to the wine, thanks to the distinctive terroir of the region. Naming the wine after the vineyard highlights the importance of the place of origin and the strong connection with the territory in winemaking.
The optimal evolutionary peak is reached 7 years after bottling, but its aging potential can extend up to 16 years.
The Winemaking
Harvesting takes place in the second decade of September, when the grapes achieve perfect ripeness. After destemming, a cold skin maceration at 8 °C is performed, followed by static clarification. Fermentation occurs at controlled temperatures between 16 and 19 °C, using selected yeasts and lasting about 18-20 days. The wine does not undergo malolactic fermentation, thus maintaining freshness and vivacity. The elevage lasts 8 months on natural lees, followed by 9 months of bottle aging before release.
