Ronc Platat: An Enological Retreat in the Friulian Hills

Ronc Platat, which in Friulian means “house on a hill with a hidden vineyard,” is an emerging winery located in the heart of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Founded by Tommaso Zanuttini, born in 1988, this young enological venture is the result of a passion that led Tommaso to leave a promising legal career to fully dedicate himself to the world of wine. After earning a law degree in Milan and practicing at a prestigious law firm, Tommaso followed his calling by leasing vineyards between Buttrio and Manzano.

A Project in Evolution

The Ronc Platat project began almost experimentally, with the help of influential friends and collaborators in the field, such as Ronco del Gnemiz and Duo del Monte. Initially, the production was limited to a few bottles, but thanks to Tommaso’s dedication and innovative vision, the winery quickly expanded its scope. Today, Ronc Platat spans six hectares of vineyard, producing five white wines, with a recent interest in experimenting with reds.

In the meantime, Tommaso enrolled in an oenology course and became an oenologist himself, honing his skills and developing a unique style. His approach is characterized by cleanliness, linearity, and classicism, aiming for wines that express freshness and balance. The use of French oak, often imported directly, adds complexity and distinctive structure to the wines.

Winemaking Processes and Production Philosophy

At the heart of Ronc Platat’s wines lies meticulous attention to grape quality, which must be harvested at the right level of ripeness, neither green nor overripe. The white grapes are whole pressed and vinified in steel with simple yeasts, then matured in small wooden barrels to enhance their organoleptic characteristics.

For the red wines, the aging process takes place in barriques, with a duration that varies depending on the type of wine. The choice between new or used barriques is driven by the need to calibrate the wine’s vigor, ensuring a final product that reflects the identity and vision of Ronc Platat.

In summary, Ronc Platat presents itself as a winery that, despite its recent foundation, has already carved out a significant space in the Friulian enological landscape, thanks to the passion and innovation of its founder, Tommaso Zanuttini.
