The Pinot Grigio from Villa Russiz Winery
The Pinot Grigio from Cantina Villa Russiz represents a refined and complex expression of this grape variety, grown in a privileged terroir. Located in one of Italy’s most renowned wine regions, Cantina Villa Russiz combines tradition and innovation to produce high-quality wines, respecting the environment and enhancing the unique characteristics of the grapes.
The Pinot Grigio grapes are cultivated on hills facing south, east, and west, on entirely marl soil. The planting density is 4,500 – 5,000 vines per hectare, and the training is a double-arched cane (cappuccina) and guyot.
The Winemaking
The harvest, which took place from late August to early September, was carried out manually in the early morning to ensure the freshness of the grapes. In the winery, the grapes undergo a gentle pressing, and the free-run juice obtained is fermented at a controlled temperature. The wine matures on its fine lees for 8-9 months before being bottled, thus developing its aromatic complexity.
Tasting the wine of the winery
The Pinot Grigio from Villa Russiz presents a straw-yellow color. On the nose, it is fine and elegant, with a complex fruity bouquet that evolves over time. The predominant notes are those of peach and pear, accompanied by a delicate hint of wildflowers. On the palate, the wine offers a balance between freshness and structure, with a lively and persistent finish.
Food Pairings
This Pinot Grigio is a versatile wine, ideal for accompanying a wide range of dishes. It pairs perfectly with fish dishes, such as tuna and raw salmon, and is excellent with shellfish appetizers. It also complements light first courses with simple sauces well. It is indispensable with Cjarsons from Carnia, a typical Friulian dish. Finally, thanks to its freshness and finesse, it is also highly appreciated as an aperitif.
