The Verduzzo from Ronchi di Manzano Winery
The Verduzzo from Ronchi di Manzano Winery highlights the winemaking tradition of the Friuli Colli Orientali. This sweet wine, made from 100% Verduzzo grapes, reflects the uniqueness of the region, characterized by “ponca,” a soil composed of Eocene-origin marl and sandstone. With an alcohol content of 12%, Verduzzo is renowned for its elegance and aromatic complexity. The vines, planted in 1998 and cultivated using the Guyot method, thrive on the Rosazzo hill, an area famous for the quality of its wines.
The Winemaking
The winemaking process begins with the grapes being left to dry on the vines until the end of October, a method that concentrates the sugars and aromas of the grapes. After harvesting, the grapes are destemmed and left in contact with the skins overnight at 0°C to enhance the primary aromas. The grapes are then pressed, and the must is decanted and transferred to small stainless steel barrels. This delicate process preserves the wine’s freshness and aromatic intensity.
Tasting the wine of the winery
Verduzzo displays an intense golden yellow color with orange peel hues. On the nose, it offers intense and elegant aromas of candied orange, dried apricots, and mountain honey, creating an enveloping aromatic bouquet. On the palate, the wine has a good body, with sweetness balanced by a lively acidity, enhancing its freshness and persistence.
Food Pairings
This Verduzzo is ideal for pairing with desserts featuring aged cheeses and gorgonzola, thanks to its ability to balance sweet and savory flavors. It is also perfect with foie gras, offering a rich and sophisticated tasting experience. To fully appreciate its qualities, it is recommended to serve Verduzzo chilled, at a temperature of about 10-12°C. This wine is an excellent choice for those seeking a sweet wine with great personality and harmony, capable of enhancing the end-of-meal moments with class and refinement.
