The Merlot from Cantina Simon Komjanc is a wine that best represents Friulian winemaking tradition, embodying the essence of the Collio region. The Komjanc family, cultivating these lands since 1860, has transformed their agricultural estate into a solid reality in regional viticulture, located on the hills at the border between Gorizia and Slovenia. The Winemaking
The winemaking of this Merlot is a careful and meticulous process. The Merlot grapes, grown in clay and sandstone soils, are handpicked and immediately brought to the winery. Here, the grapes are selected and gently pressed. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. After fermentation, the wine is aged for a period in oak barrels, where it acquires complexity and structure before being bottled.
Tasting the wine
Merlot presents itself with an intense ruby red color. On the nose, it offers delicate and elegant aromas of morello cherry and berry jam, enriched by subtle spicy notes and violets that add further depth. On the palate, the wine enters smoothly and envelopingly, offering a full and fruity sip. The tannins are dense and well-integrated, contributing to a sensation of roundness and pleasure that persists in the finish.
Food Pairings
The Merlot from Cantina Simon Komjanc is an extremely versatile wine, perfect for accompanying a variety of land-based dishes. It pairs splendidly with first courses like pasta with ragù and stuffed pasta, as well as second courses like roasts and braised red meats and game. Its structure and complexity make it ideal for enhancing the rich and intense flavors of these dishes. It is recommended to serve it at a temperature of about 16-18°C to fully appreciate its organoleptic qualities.

The winery Simon Komjanc is located in the heart of the hills of San Floriano del Collio, specifically in the Valerisce area, within the renowned D.O.C. Collio, famous for its excellent wine production. With a total area of 20 hectares, of which 11 are dedicated to vineyards, the company produces an average of 600 hectoliters of wine, mainly distributed in Italy. The grapes, sourced exclusively from its own vineyards, are vinified using modern technologies while respecting the historical traditions of the area.
