Domaine Zind-Humbrecht
The ideal culture is Nature
The Story
The story of the Humbrecht family is a celebration of the passion for viticulture, a love that has been passed down through generations since the 17th century. Founded in 1959, Domaine Zind-Humbrecht is a corner of wine paradise that saw the reins pass from Léonard and Geneviève Humbrecht to Olivier and Margaret in 1989, keeping alive a tradition that breathes authenticity and respect for the land. Today, their children, Pierre and Emile, continue this journey, bringing freshness and a new vision to the world of Alsatian viticulture.
The Terroir and the Winery Philosophy
The Domaine spans a mosaic of extraordinary terroirs, where each vineyard tells a unique story. Here, the Grand Crus of Alsace come to life: the Rangen de Thann stands majestically with its 5.5 hectares, while the Goldert, with its 0.9 hectares, stands out for its elegance. In this enchanting landscape, Hengst and Brand, measuring 1.4 and 2.4 hectares respectively, join Sommerberg and Wineck-Schlossberg, creating a fascinating interplay of flavors. Other vineyards, such as Rotenberg and Clos Häuserer, proudly extend their reach, while Herrenweg, with its 11.5 hectares, embodies the great winemaking tradition of the region. Every corner of this territory is infused with passion and dedication, contributing to the creation of wines that are true works of art.
Olivier Humbrecht MW presents a philosophy that goes beyond mere cultivation: it is a hymn to Nature. Here, there is no ideal culture, because the true essence is inscribed in the laws of nature itself. Through the practice of biodynamics, the Domaine seeks to create a harmonious environment where the vines can thrive without coercion. The goal is to enhance the vital energy of the plants, allowing them to fully express their potential and produce grapes of extraordinary quality.
The Wines
Minerality is the distinctive element that makes the wines of Domaine Zind-Humbrecht shine, reflecting the complexity and uniqueness of their terroir. Each bottle is a journey through time and space, a celebration of nature and tradition. The winery is committed to producing wines that are the authentic expression of their environment, avoiding practices that could compromise the sacred bond between soil and wine. In this way, Zind-Humbrecht wines are not just to be tasted, but to be lived, an invitation to explore and discover the magic of Alsace.
