We are in Gorizia, near the border with Slovenia; this is where Damijan Podversic created the winery of his dreams, just as he wanted it. Damijan, who at just 40 years of age already has a vast experience, has always wanted to recover and enhance old abandoned vineyards in the hills around Gorizia which have always been particularly suited to viticulture. Damijan began his journey by taking care of the family vineyards where he could work closely with Josko Gravner; the person who taught him everything and that Danijan considers his mentor.

The Damijan Podversic winery was born thanks to the small plots of land that the owner bought in Monte Calvario. Today the company boasts six hectares of vineyards where Ribolla Gialla, Istrian Malvasia, Friulian, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are grown. It is essential to know that the winery’s philosophy is to respect the environment and its ecosystem. 100% organic farm where all the processing both in the vineyard and in the cellar are dictated by the moon phases. You also need to know that in the cellar, the winemaking is done only in wooden barrels and vats.

All the wines produced by Damijan are of the highest quality and by tasting them, both the aromas and the flavors perfectly reflect the territory from which they come.

NONINO RISIT D’AUR AWARD GOLDEN BARBATELLA 2019

To Damijan Podversic for giving impetuous impetus to the cultivation of Ribolla gialla, an ancient autochthonous vine of Friuli Venezia Giulia, and started the process for the recovery of land suitable for viticulture and abandoned since 1940 in Monte Calvario, in the province of Gorizia. His work symbolically represents an extraordinary research opportunity and one of the most genuine expressions of the regional wine.

The awarding of the prize also wants to be a passionate appeal to the region’s winemakers to find the agreement on the production disciplinary to get D.O.C. for the Ribolla gialla which guarantees its production exclusively for the territory of Friuli Venezia Giulia.”
