The Pinot Grigio Jesera from Venica & Venica Winery
The Pinot Grigio “Jesera” from Cantina Venica & Venica is a wine of great personality, capable of combining the typical vivacity of Pinot Grigio with distinctive structure and character. Produced in the vineyards of the Collio DOC, this wine reflects the unique terroir of the area. Also known as Pinot Gris, this grape variety originates from Alsace and is now spread globally, with Italy as the world’s largest producer. “Jesera” means “place of waters” in Slovenian, a name that evokes the vineyard’s ideal microclimate.
Pinot Grigio “Jesera” manages to maintain its vivacity and lightheartedness while offering a complexity that enhances its terroir. It is a playful and easily drinkable wine that has found particular success in the USA and the UK due to its quality and distinctive character.
The Winemaking
The Pinot Grigio grapes were harvested and destemmed in the first decade of September. After harvesting, the grapes are macerated for about 4/8 hours at a controlled temperature of 14°C directly in the presses. This process occurs in the absence of oxygen, thanks to the recycling of fermentation carbon dioxide, thereby reducing the use of antioxidants. About 10% of the wine is aged in large wooden barrels of 20/27 HL and in 5 HL tonneaux, while the remainder matures in steel containers. Bottling takes place in correspondence with the full moons of March and July.
Tasting the wine of the winery
Pinot Grigio “Jesera” presents an elegantly coppery hue, which varies depending on the vintage. On the nose, it offers a fresh and lively bouquet, with notes of yellow peach, flowers, and light mineral nuances. On the palate, the wine is enveloping, with fresh and savory sensations. The fruity notes return, finishing with good minerality. The alcohol content is 13.50%.
Food Pairings
This versatile wine is ideal for pairing with appetizers and canapés, light soups, grilled fish, and white meats. Its broad pairability and easy drinking nature make it perfect for daily consumption. The recommended serving temperature is 12/13°C, and its aging potential exceeds 10 years.
