The Malvasia Lehte from Zidarich Winery is a Friulian white wine that embodies the essence of the Carso Triestino lands. Produced in the municipality of Duino Aurisina, in the locality of Prepotto, this artisanal wine reflects Zidarich’s philosophy, which values traditional viticulture and the authentic expression of the territory.
Specifically, the Malvasia grapes used for this wine are harvested from vineyards that belonged to Zidarich’s parents. The Malvasia Lehte is not just a wine but a sensory experience that tells the story and passion of a unique land, best expressing the peculiarities of the Carso. It is a prestigious label to discover and cherish, capable of evolving and surprising over time.
The Winemaking
The Malvasia Istriana grapes, a local clone of the historic Mediterranean variety, come from a unique vineyard with plants about 45 years old. After destemming, fermentation occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in open vats, followed by skin maceration without temperature control. The wine matures for 24 months in Slavonian oak barrels, acquiring a complex and harmonious structure, and further refines in the bottle.
Tasting the wine
Malvasia Lehte presents a slightly veiled and shimmering golden yellow color. On the nose, it offers an intense and mineral bouquet, with aromas of white peach, mirabelle plums, oriental spices, Mediterranean aromatic herbs, and iodized notes. On the palate, it is an elegant and sapid wine, with a complex aromatic development and a fresh and lively vein. The taste persistence is extraordinary, with a fresh and mineral finish that invites prolonged tasting.
Food Pairings
This wine is well-suited to accompany refined and complex seafood dishes, such as gratinated seafood, baked white fish fillet with aromatic herbs, and grilled shellfish. Its structure and complexity also make it ideal with soft and aged cheeses, such as a Sardinian pecorino.
