The beginning

We are in Prepotto in the north east of Friuli Venezia Giulia visiting Vie D’Alt; an historic winery founded in 1915 by the great-grandparents of Mara, Nadia and Giulia Venica. It is a family run business; in fact these three bubbly young women, with their parents (Bruno and Paola) carry out all the daily activities.

The Vie d’Alt winery is so called because the first vineyard purchased (Vie d’Alt) is located in the highest street in the Prepotto area. Vie d’Alt in Friulian translates as “high way”; today it covers 18 hectares of vineyards and thanks to the climatic and soil characteristics, it produces wines of the highest quality; award-winning in Italy and abroad.

The Logo

Another very interesting curiosity is linked to the company logo, a three-petal tulip; a a flower that we can be defined feminine that Bruno and Paola Venica chose and dedicated to their three daughters; each petal in fact represents one of the three women; from the eldest to the youngest of the family.

The Wine Card

The winery has an important wine list where the indigenous single vines wines like the Schioppettino di Prepotto stand out; but  we must also mention the sparkling Ribolla Gialla that from year 2020 is fully made (even the sparkling process) in the winery. In September 2020 Vie D’Alt presented 2 commemorative reserve wines that born to celebrate the 105th winery anniversary. The white reserve is called ALJER (“it was” in the Friulian language), is a blend of Friulano, Malvasia and Traminer and it is dedicated to the great-grandparents of Mara, Nadia and Giulia Venica. The red reserve is a Merlot called ALSARA ‘(“it will be”, in Friulian); it is a wine dedicated to the future generations who will have the task of continuing this incredible story.

If you find yourself near Prepotto you absolutely have to go to the winery, you will find three sprint sisters ready to welcome you, make you feel at home and taste their incredible award-winning wine selection!!!
