The Viognier from Rocca di Montemassi Winery
The Viognier from the renowned Rocca di Montemassi winery is a true enological gem, crafted from pure Viognier grapes. These grapes are cultivated in the winery’s own vineyards, located in the beautiful municipality of Roccastrada. The Viognier grape, of French origin, is particularly prized for producing Condrieu, a rare and prestigious wine, highly sought after by enthusiasts of distinctive wines. Rocca di Montemassi’s Viognier stands out for its intensity and complexity, enriched by a pleasant mineral note that enhances the palate.
The Winemaking
The grapes are hand-picked when they reach perfect ripeness to ensure maximum quality. They are placed in small crates to preserve their integrity during transport to the winery. Here, the grapes undergo a 24-hour cryomaceration process, which enhances the wine’s aromas and flavors. Subsequently, the grapes are gently pressed to obtain the must, which ferments at a controlled temperature of about 18°C. This step is crucial to safeguard the wine’s organoleptic characteristics. Fermentation occurs in Slavonian oak barrels and tonneaux, where the wine rests for about 8 months, developing its complex aromatic profile. After blending and bottling, the wine is left to mature in the bottle for at least one year before being marketed, ensuring a product of the highest quality.
Tasting the Viognier
The Viognier presents a bright golden yellow color, captivating the eye with its brilliance. On the nose, it offers an intense and complex bouquet, characterized by delicate balsamic notes and vanilla scents that harmoniously intertwine. On the palate, it is fragrant and structured, with a delicate yet decisive aromatic profile, a pleasant sapid and mineral vein, and truly remarkable persistence.
Pairings
