The Merlot Maurus from Vie Di Romans Winery is named after the “Maurus” vineyard. This vineyard is located in the renowned Friuli Isonzo Rive Alte area. The name “Maurus” evokes the region’s winemaking tradition and history. It highlights the wine’s depth and complexity. The vineyard is situated in the municipality of Mariano del Friuli. The vines have an average age of 23 years. The planting density ranges from 6,000 to 6,500 vines per hectare. These characteristics contribute to the superior quality of the Merlot produced.

The Winemaking
The winemaking of Merlot Maurus begins with de-stemming and a long 28-day maceration, combined with punching down and delestage, to best extract aromas and tannins. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures between 18 and 30 °C, using selected yeasts. Malolactic fermentation is completed to soften the wine, which then matures for 18 months in barriques. Subsequently, the wine rests for 8 months in stainless steel tanks until achieving natural clarification, before being bottled and aged in the bottle for 14 months.

Merlot Maurus presents an intense ruby red color. On the nose, it offers a fine and enveloping aroma, with hints of red berry fruit, prominently featuring ripe plum, accompanied by notes of dark chocolate. On the palate, the wine reveals an immediate freshness followed by forest fruits, with a medium structure and young tannins that make it easy to drink.
