The Sassabruna Wine from Rocca di Montemassi Winery
The Sassabruna from Rocca di Montemassi winery is an intriguing wine, crafted from a blend of Sangiovese (80%), Merlot (10%), and Syrah (10%). These grapes are sourced from vineyards owned by the winery, located in the municipality of Roccastrada, in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma, specifically in the renowned Sassabruna vineyards, from which the wine takes its name. The Maremma region, with its favorable climate and rich soils, offers ideal conditions for viticulture, contributing to a wine with unique and unmistakable characteristics.
The Winemaking Process
The grapes are hand-picked, selecting only the finest bunches to ensure superior quality. Once at the winery, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, maintained between 28 and 30°C, for about 20 days. During this process, the must develops its distinctive aromas. Subsequently, the wine matures for 12 months in 350-liter tonneaux. This aging process allows flavors to evolve and intensify. After bottling, the Sassabruna continues to rest in the cellar for an additional 4 months, ensuring the wine reaches its perfect harmony and complexity before being released to the market.

The Sassabruna presents a deep, bright ruby red color. On the nose, it offers a complex and rich bouquet, with distinct scents of ripe red fruits and underbrush, interspersed with spicy notes and delicate hints of licorice. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, enveloping, and well-structured, with a long and persistent finish where the spicy notes perceived on the nose return, providing a complete and satisfying tasting experience.
