The wine Riesling Campofranco from Tenuta Carretta Winery
The Riesling Campofranco from Tenuta Carretta is a tribute to the revival of viticulture in Alta Langa. This region, once neglected, has seen renewed interest due to the exceptional quality of its productions. The Rhine Riesling, a noble grape variety originating from the Moselle, has found one of its rare chosen areas in Italy in Alta Langa. Since 1975, experimental studies have been conducted on this grape, which today thrives in the hills of Cissone at about 600 meters above sea level.
The Langhe DOC Riesling Campofranco is not just a wine, but a symbol of the viticultural renaissance of a historically significant area. Its production reflects Tenuta Carretta’s commitment to enhancing and preserving the winemaking traditions of Alta Langa.
The Winemaking
The winemaking of Campofranco is a meticulous process that begins with the harvesting of Rhine Riesling grapes. These are pressed whole using a pneumatic press, keeping the must protected from oxidation. A brief maceration on the skins follows, after which the must begins fermentation at a controlled temperature of 16°C. The wine then ages on fine lees in stainless steel tanks for eight months. Bottling takes place in the June following the harvest, followed by bottle aging for at least 18 months. This lengthy process ensures a wine of great complexity and structure.
