The Friulano Primarûl from Venica & Venica Winery
The Friulano Primarûl from Cantina Venica & Venica is not just a wine; it is a symbol of tradition and dedication spanning generations. The name “Primarûl,” meaning “firstborn” in Friulian, honors the first grapes harvested by the founder Daniele Venica, a pioneer who transformed the lands of Friuli into a stronghold of viticulture. This white wine is deeply rooted in the hearts of the Friulian people, being the quintessential “taj di blanc,” the glass of white that accompanies the region’s convivial moments. On the occasion of the winery’s 90th anniversary, Gianni and Giorgio Venica wanted to celebrate their grandfather Daniele with this special label, symbolizing heritage and innovation. With roots deep in the past and a gaze towards the future, the Friulano Primarûl embodies the perfect fusion of history, territory, and winemaking passion.
This wine has an aging potential that exceeds 10 years, allowing its evolution to be appreciated over time. It is recommended to serve Friulano Primarûl at a temperature of 12/13°C to best enhance its aromatic characteristics.
The Winemaking
The grapes, harvested between the second and third week of September, are the result of meticulous vineyard work, a legacy of the founder Daniele Venica. After harvesting, the grapes are destemmed and macerated for 12 hours at a controlled temperature (10°/12°C). This process occurs in oxygen-protected containers using innovative systems that recycle fermentation carbon dioxide, thus reducing the use of antioxidants. The must ferments and matures on the lees in steel for about six months, allowing for the development of aromatic complexity. Bottling takes place during the full moons of March and July.
Tasting the wine of the winery
The Friulano Primarûl presents itself with a bright straw-yellow color. On the nose, it features fruity notes of Renetta apple and wildflowers, with a finish characterized by the typical toasted almond scent. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, fresh, and well-structured, with a finish that recalls bitter almond, making it a captivating tasting experience.
Food Pairings
This wine pairs perfectly with seafood, raw fish appetizers, seafood salads, pasta with seafood, and fish soups. It is also excellent with fresh and creamy cheeses, Montasio, prosciutto crudo, and vegetable dishes, as well as traditional Friulian preparations based on polenta.
