Nonino Distillery is an icon in the world of spirits, with a history spanning over 125 years. Founded in 1897 by Orazio Nonino in Ronchi di Percoto, the distillery started as a small mobile still on wheels. Since then, the Nonino family has transformed this enterprise into a prestigious name in the global grappa scene.

Revolutionary Innovations

In 1973, the Nonino family introduced a true revolution in the world of grappa with the creation of Monovitigno® Nonino, by separately distilling the pomace of Picolit grapes. This innovation paved the way for a new conception of the spirit, enhancing the unique qualities of individual grape varieties.

In 1984, the family made another significant step with the creation of ÙE®, the Grape Distillate, by distilling grape skin, pulp, and juice together. This product is dedicated to their daughters Cristina, Antonella, and Elisabetta and represents a perfect blend of the elegance of wine distillate and the character of grappa.

Awards and Recognitions

The Nonino Risit d’Aur Prize, established in 1975, has played a crucial role in promoting and recognizing ancient autochthonous Friulian grape varieties. The prize has anticipated Nobel Prize choices six times, demonstrating the cultural and social impact of the Nonino family’s work.

In 2003, the Nonino family received the Leonardo Quality Italy Prize, recognizing their commitment to quality and innovation. In 2019, the distillery was named Best Distillery in the World at the Wine Enthusiast Wine Star Awards, a unique title for an Italian grappa producer.

Production Process

Production takes place in five artisanal distilleries, each equipped with 12 copper steam discontinuous stills. This traditional method ensures that each distillate maintains exceptional quality. The Nonino family closely monitors each stage of the process, from purchasing raw materials to distillation, to ensure the excellence of the final product.

Aging and Quality

Nonino Grappas and other distillates are naturally aged in barriques and small casks. This process is under the strict supervision of the Customs and Monopolies Agency, ensuring an authentic and high-quality product. In the seven aging warehouses, 2620 barriques of fine woods such as Nevers Oak, Limousin, Grésigne, and other traditional essences are preserved.

In recent years, the Nonino BotanicalDrink has been named Aperitif of the Year for three consecutive years at the International Spirits Award by Meininger’s, while the Amaro Nonino Quintessentia® RISERVA received the Chairman’s Trophy at the Ultimate Spirit Challenge.
