The Schioppettino from the Tunella Winery
Schioppettino is an indigenous grape variety from the Eastern Friuli Hills, renowned for its complexity and distinctive character. Cantina Tunella, with a long-standing tradition of respecting the land and its varieties, produces a wine that embodies the essence of this region. The meticulous care in cultivation and vinification makes Schioppettino a symbol of Friulian winemaking.
The Tunella winery grows all its grapes according to the canons of integrated anti-parasitic control with low environmental impact.
The Winemaking
The grape harvest takes place in the first week of October, with a strictly manual collection to ensure the selection of the best bunches. After summer thinning, the grapes are destemmed and crushed. The fermentation of the must lasts about 20 days, during which frequent pump-overs are carried out to extract color and tannins from the skins. Subsequently, the wine is racked and aged in the cellar for about two years in French oak tonneaux. Finally, the aging process is completed in the bottle before commercialization..
Tasting the wine of the winery
In appearance, Schioppettino presents a dark red hue, capable of staining the glass and forming dense, consistent legs. On the nose, it offers a complex and enveloping bouquet, with notes of dried figs, nuts, and balsamic hints, accompanied by small black berry fruits. On the palate, the wine is broad and decisive, with a velvety texture and a well-integrated tannic component that successively echoes all the aromas.
Food Pairings
This Schioppettino is an important red wine, ideal for meditation and accompanying robust dishes. It pairs perfectly with roasts, fatty red meats, feathered game, and flavorful cheeses. Its structure and complexity make it an ideal companion for convivial moments and important dinners, where it can best express its qualities. Served at a temperature of 18-20°C and allowed to decant before serving, this wine is destined to leave an indelible mark on the palate of connoisseurs.
