The wine Stella Retica Valtellina Superiore Sassella DOCG by Ar.Pe.Pe winery
The Nebbiolo Stella Retica from the Ar.pe.pe winery represents the best quality of Nebbiolo from Valtellina. Nebbiolo Stella Retica was created to honour the edelweiss that is always found with difficulty among the rocks at high altitudes. The winery’s vineyards are 450 meters above sea level on purely rocky terrain, and all work in the vineyard is entirely manual.
THE WINEMAKING
After the manual harvest, which takes place at the end of October, the selected grapes are taken to the cellar for winemaking. Maceration takes place in 50hl wooden vats and lasts over one-hundred days. The wine ages in wood for at least fifteen months, and after blending and bottling, it rests in the cellar for a few more months before being placed on the market.
Tasting the Valtellina Superiore Sassella DOCG by Ar.Pe.Pe
Ruby red with garnet reflections. The aroma is elegant, with pleasant fruity notes leaving room for undergrowth to close with floral hints of violets and wood. Intense and well-structured on the palate. This Stella Retica is a fun Resco wine with tannins present but well integrated and silky. The correspondence between aromas and flavour is also excellent. Very long and persistent finish.
FOOD PAIRINGS
It goes well with red meat and hard cheeses; try it with grilled meat.
